The
Philosophy...
Though manual therapies are generally
considered a form of bodywork,
we cannot divide the whole of who we are...
Mind, Body and Spirit.
We know that the way we feel physically can affect our attitudes and
our outlook. If we are in pain for any period of time we can become
irritable and unpleasant, even depressed. Similarly, if we are under
emotional or mental stress, our bodies can suffer physical dysfunction
or disease. One simple example is the shoulder and neck strain one might
feel after a particularly stressful drive in slow moving traffic.
Manual therapy such as massage, myofascial release and movement reeducation
open the door for complete healing by treating the physical body. These
techniques can help the body by improving circulation, increasing mobility
of the muscles and connective tissue, and retraining our muscles to
help us move more efficiently. Other techniques, such as therapeutic
touch, reflexology, and acupressure, address the circulation of energy
(or chi) in the body. Symptoms, such as pain, occur when the movement
of chi is blocked. By opening these channels, the flow is restored,
promoting a state of health and well being. Treatments are designed
to address your specific needs within a cohesive “hands-on”
session of integrative manual therapy similar to a massage.
